I have just now only heard of Jim’s passing. He was a very kind man.  He introduced me to his wonderful wife, Lise who impacted my life tremendously Ans we became like family.  I visited their home and garden frequently in the years before Lise passed.  I have fond memories of their open hearts and creative souls.  Jim will always be remembered so fondly in my heart.  

I first met Jim at a palm society meeting in So. California.  Jim was one of the kindest people I have known. He was welcoming to me and all other new members and guest of the Southern California Palm Society.  I feel so fortunate to have know Jim. 

Jim was a unique, very kind and caring friend.  He was an amazing husband
to Lise.  I always enjoyed visiting them and having a tour of their incredible garden!  I am so happy that I knew him.

Jim was truly one of the most unique and wonderful individuals I've ever known. I held him dear to my heart and always will.

I met Jim working at Scripps Oceanography almost fifty years ago and in all those years never heard him mention a harsh word. He was a large character in the plant world in San Diego, creating a garden that was loved by all. Many will miss him.

Jim will always be remembered by those of us who loved him as a kind and generous man.  He lived by his political convictions and strived to make the earth better.  He loved his palms, orchids, and bromeliads and shared this passion with his many friends.  I really miss him but he will always remain in my memory just as he was.  Nancy
