Joann Pearl Mockbee

Joann was born on October 1, 1938, in Taylor, Texas.

She lived in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego for most of her life and was an active member of her community. Joann loved the ocean including open water swimming in La Jolla Cove, late night grunion hunting and, in her later years, sitting by the beach and watching the waves. She was also an avid birder and loved spending time with her friends in the “Tweet and Eat” birding group. Her professional interests were as diverse as her hobbies. Joann worked in radiology before embracing entrepreneurship and trying her hand at starting various business in the hospitality industry including opening and running, “Boomers,” a coffee shop and restaurant near the beach. In 1990, she served as the president of Women’s Enterprises. Her favorite career was working as a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker, the job she ultimately retired from.

Joann is survived by friends, neighbors and community members who loved and cared for her and who will miss her dearly. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 10:00am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 5151 Fanuel Street, San Diego, California, 92109.
