a two and half year long battle with stage four lung cancer. She departed
peacefully, surrounded by her close friends and immediate family members.
Jocelyn or “Joy,” was born on December 28th, 1964, in Naga City,
Philippines. Joy eventually moved to Manila during her adulthood, where
she met her first and only love, Anselmo. In the summer of 2004, Joy
immigrated to the United States with their three children and settled in
San Marcos, California. After almost a decade, Joy returned to the
Philippines to joyously marry Anselmo. She would subsequently bring him
to the United States in the spring of 2015 to reunite her family.
Joy inspired many through her resilience and strength. During her time,
Joy accomplished a lifetime of achievements, despite the many obstacles
that she faced while raising a family by herself in a foreign country.
However, above all else, Joy was known for her kind and friendly nature
throughout her life. During her twenty years of caregiving in San Marcos,
she was adored by her elderly patients for her warm and gentle demeanor.
Even when Joy was diagnosed with cancer and as she bravely fought her
terminal illness, she remained the same: a loving mother who radiated
kindness and warmth for her family and friends.
During her final years, Joy was able to enjoy life to the fullest and celebrate
its last gifts. Although her time on Earth was cut short, Joy lived a fulfilling
and beautiful life, adored and loved by friends and family.
