The kindest and gentlest of men – John “Jack” Armstrong will be greatly missed! John was born December 24, 1920, in Binghamton, NY, to Teresa and John Lewis Armstrong. He was the second of six children. After graduating in 1943 from Mount St. Mary’s College in Maryland, Jack enlisted in the U. S. Navy and attended the Supply Corps officer training at Harvard Business School to begin his naval service in WWII.
After the war, he was hired by Dean Witter / Morgan Stanley as the second broker in the San Diego office where he enjoyed a successful and illustrious career spanning 61 years. His wisdom, honesty, integrity and eternal optimism served his clients, community, and family well. “When you enjoy what you do, you never work a day in your life.”
John married Mary Margaret (Alex) Rector of Moberly, Missouri, on October 9, 1947. They were the parents of three children: Michael, of Carmel Valley, CA; Joelyn (Andrews) of Provo, UT; and, Mark of El Cajon, CA. John is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Salani and Rita Wishengrad; his three children; nine grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and, one great-great grandson.
A memorial mass will be offered on Friday, November 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Francis Chapel of Mission de Alcala, 10818 Mission San Diego Road, San Diego, CA 92108, with a celebration of life program and reception following the mass at the Mission Valley Stake Center, 4195 Camino Del Rio South, San Diego, CA 92108.
