BRENHA, JACK August 8, 1945 to May 27, 2024. Jack Brenha, 78, of San Diego passed away on Memorial Day. He was born in San Diego, CA, and was a retired commercial tuna fisherman. Jack grew up and went to primary school at St. Agnes Parochial School in his beloved Point Loma, surrounded by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as his lifelong childhood friends.
Jack went on to attend high school at Saint Augustine High School and graduated in 1963. He would continue to stay close to his childhood friends over the years and see them at organized events, the annual Portuguese Festa, as well as monthly lunches.
After high school, he would be drafted into the Army and stationed in Germany before returning to San Diego to return to fishing as a speedboat driver. Jack would eventually work his way up to navigator, the position which he would eventually retire from.
In 1968 Jack married his wife, Kathy, and they moved from Point Loma to University City in 1971 to start their family. He and his wife lived out their 55 years of marriage in the house where they raised their children, as well as welcomed his two grandchildren. Jack would often be found on the sidelines of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events over the years, his favorite pastime of watching sports carrying into watching those of his loved ones.
Jack had a great respect for the ocean and enjoyed bodysurfing when not at work on a boat. His love of the sea was surpassed only by his love for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Eleanor Brenha. His survivors include his wife, Kathy Brenha, son Jason Brenha, daughter Jennifer (Jawad) Bisharat, grandchildren Jagger and Jordyn, his sister Janice Corona; as well many cousins and nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 7 2024, at The United Portuguese Hall,
2818 Avenida de Portugal at 12:00 with burial planned for a later date at Miramar National Cemetery. For more information, contact Merkley-Mitchell Funeral Home at (619) 295-2177. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
