John Michael Chious, age 85, of Camarillo, California passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Born in Chicago in 1940, John Chious demonstrated an early interest in art. He won his first contest at age nine and studied at the Art Institute for eight years. During his youth, John went on to receive a B.A. in art from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.
Always an original and audacious thinker, he left a flourishing career as an art dealer in Chicago in order to create his own images. Attracted to Southern California by its warmth and diversity, de draws inspiration from the forms, shapes, and colors of this new environment. John’s work has achieved a sophisticated and disciplined relationship of shapes. His faultless blend of and strong sensitivity to color ranges the spectrum from browns and golds to blue. This is exemplified in one his most popular works, Impulse.
John enjoyed family time and leaves behind a wonderful legacy of art and memories.
