It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Lares, who left us peacefully on February 20th, 2026 at the age 60. John lived a beautiful life alongside his wife Heidi, 4 daughters, and 10 grandkids.
John lived the kind of life many only talk about — full of adventure, laughter, and stories that grew better with every telling. He passed away leaving behind a lifetime of unforgettable memories and family & friends who adored him.
John had a restless spirit in the best way. He was always planning the next trip, mapping out new roads to travel and new waters to fish. Whether it was a faraway destination or a quiet weekend getaway, he believed every journey held something worth seeing. His true happy place, however, was San Felipe. There, with the sun on his face and the Sea of Cortez stretching endlessly before him, he found the peace and joy that defined him. It was where he felt most at home — rod in one hand, beer in the other and Heidi by his side.
His happiest moments were spent fishing, and being gathered around a Bonfire with friends and family. He would call it “a blaze, the bigger the better!” . For John, it was about the laughter, the stories, and the memories made along the shore.
He will be remembered for his boundless energy, his ability to fix anything, his love of adventure, and his unwavering belief that life is meant to be lived fully, boldly, and with gratitude.
