Josephine Constance (Vitrano) D'Acquisto

Born December 7, 1927, passed away peacefully in her sleep in her home with her family on August 12, 2019. She was one of six children and is survived by her brothers Thomas Vitrano and Carmelo A. Vitrano and two sisters-in-law, Rose M. Vitrano and Shirley A. Diquisto. Josephine is the Mother of two children, Nicholas J. D’Acquisto and Maria J. Hinkle. She has 11 grandchildren: John C. D’Acquisto (deceased), Joseph N. D’Acquisto, David M. D’Acquisto, Samuel N. D’Acquisto, Stephen E. D’Acquisto, Rebekah M. Butler, Sarah B. Walker, Frank J. Sanfilippo, Antonina J. Sanfilippo and step grandchildren Joseph M. Cabay and Tara D. Bowker. Josephine was also blessed with 17 beautiful great grandchildren.

Josephine was a devoted mother and housewife, an honored member of the Immaculata Catholic Church and a faithful member of Our Lady of Rosery Catholic Church. She was also a long-time member of the Maria SS. Addolorata, Societa del Santo Rosario and the Madonna del Lume societies. She received a Papal Apostolic Blessing from Pope Francis for her 91st Birthday, which was presented to her by Father Matthew D. Spahr in December 2018.

Josephine will be missed by her 3 generations of children, grand-children, great-grandchildren, many loving spouses and their families, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. We honor, bless and celebrate the life of Josephine D’Acquisto, our dedicated and self-sacrificing Mother, Sister, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.

There will be a viewing at Merkley Mitchell Mortuary, August 15, 2019, 3655 5th Avenue, San Diego, CA 92103 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. A mass will be held on August 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Immaculata Catholic Church, 5998 Alcala Park, San Diego, CA 92110, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, 4470 Hilltop Drive, San Diego, CA 92102. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Sharp Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1750, La Mesa, CA 91944-1750 in appreciation for their professional family and patient services and in recognition of Josephine’s daily private caregivers for their wonderful support
