Kevin Richard Freeman, 65, passed away on November 1, 2025, following a motorcycle accident in San Diego, California. Born on April 5, 1960, in Mt. Kisco, New York, to Richard and Barbara Freeman, Kevin spent his childhood in Fairfield, Connecticut—years that shaped his lifelong curiosity, independence, and unmistakable spirit of adventure. After graduating from high school, Kevin followed his heart west to Vail, Colorado, where he became an expert skier and a beloved manager at the local favorite, The Red Lion. His love for open roads and wide horizons eventually led him to San Diego, where he made his home for more than thirty years. There, he embraced life with his signature mullet, his iconic bracelets, and his unmistakable wardrobe of flame-and-skull-themed red and black—always entirely, unapologetically himself.
Kevin began his career in the hospitality industry while still in high school and went on to own and manage many high-end restaurants, including the award-winning Top O' the Cove in La Jolla. In addition to being an accomplished restaurateur and bar manager, he had a thriving business buying and selling vintage, collectible cars. To know Kevin was to hear about his latest project, from Chevelles to Corvettes, his home garage became a true shrine to his love of craftsmanship and hands-on mechanics.
Kevin truly lived every day to its fullest. He was a natural athlete and loved watching and participating in a variety of sports, including mountain biking, skiing, and daily gym workouts. Among his many attributes were a keen sense of adventure, tremendous technical ability, unique sense of creativity, and wonderful sense of humor. A loyal and generous friend, he was the life of every party and had a genuine love for people—strangers were just "buddies" he hadn't met yet. To have a nickname from Kevin was a badge of honor. All three of his siblings still carry their childhood nicknames, whether they liked them or not!
Kevin was a trusted and beloved son, brother, and uncle. He leaves behind his mother, Barbara Freeman; sisters, Kathy Zellner (Dennis) and Kelley Felner (Tom); brother, Keith (Lindsay); nephew, Chris Osborne (Lindsay); nieces, Kellie Osborne (Josh) and Taylor Freeman; and beloved dog, Tajia. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard F. Freeman, and his much-loved and spoiled dogs Turbo and Spike.
A celebration of his life will occur in San Diego at a future date with details forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that well-wishers donate to the San Diego Humane Society in Kevin's and Tajia's name. We love you Kevin, the universe will never be the same without you.
