Kimbra was born at Mercy Hospital in San Diego on October 29, 1956, to Ray and Marilyn Sellers. Ray was originally from Louisiana and was here in the Navy, where he met Marilyn. Marilyn had relocated with her mom and sister from Boston MA.
After her birth, the family moved to Glendale for a short time, eventually moving back to San Diego. They bought a home in Kearny Mesa where Kimbra grew up. Kimbra had one sibling, Ron, who is four years younger. She was Kim or Kimmy to family and friends growing up, but when she started working, she was Kimbra.
She attended Ross Elementary School, Montgomery Junior High, Kearny High School, and Mesa College. During high school, Kimbra also attended Barbizon school of modeling, and modeled wedding dresses for a brief time.
She started working at age 14 in a local donut shop, then worked for Figi’s Cheese company and the County probation department. She bought her first condo at 19. Kimbra went on to have a long career with AT&T, where she held several roles, most notably as manager for the AT&T retail phone stores, and traveled extensively.
Kimbra moved back to San Diego with AT&T, where she met and married her first husband, Michael Dailey, a Navy pilot. Their marriage lasted five years, but they remained friends for Kimbra’s entire life. She then moved to the San Francisco for AT&T, where she bought a home in Alameda. It was there she met and married Kais Menoufy, and moved to Half Moon Bay. Their marriage was almost five years.
Although Kimbra wanted children, she was never blessed with them. However, Kimbra had her two nieces, Savannah and Rilee, daughters of Ron and Patricia Sellers. Kimbra loved those two girls deeply, as if they were her own. They would spend many nights with Kimmy (as they called her), and she took each of them on their first trip to Europe as a high school graduation present.
Kimbra moved back to San Diego after the death of her dad. She built a very successful career in Real Estate where she received numerous awards and was in the top percentage of realtors in San Diego. Many of her clients stayed friends throughout her life. She was past president of the Scripps Ranch Women’s Club and remained active. She met Brian Sampson during a real estate deal in October 2004, fell in love and married 90 days after their first date. Brian has two boys, Scott and Sean. This time, the marriage lasted over fifteen years, until her passing. Kimbra and Brian were inseparable, working real estate together and traveled numerous times to the East Coast and throughout Europe. After it became harder to travel, they purchased a second home in La Quinta, to have a close place to get away.
Kimbra was diagnosed with non-smoking, stage 4 Lung Cancer in late 2010. Her left lung was partially removed, then chemo and radiation. With additional tumors, she was accepted into a DNA medical trial at UCSD and fought 8 more years with the help of some amazing doctors, with Brian by her side every day. She lost the battle on June 5, 2020, in a respiratory hospital just a block from where she was born.
Kimbra is predeceased by her mother and father, Ray and Marilyn Sellers, and survived by her husband Brian Sampson; her stepsons, Scott and Sean, and their wives; her brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Patricia Sellers; and her nieces, Savannah and Rilee Sellers. She will be missed by her family and the many friends and clients she touched.
