

Marciana Medina Baluyot, affectionately known as “Oma,” passed quietly into her eternal rest on November 18, 2015 in San Diego, California. She was born on May 24, 1914 in Florida Blanca, Pampanga, Philippines, the daughter of Gabriella Capili and Castor Medina. She was a devout Catholic who attended church twice on Sundays. She loved Elvis Presley and playing “pares, pares” (a Filipino card game) and “sungka” (Filipino mancala shell game) with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching game shows on television, especially “The Price is Right.” She also enjoyed trips to Las Vegas to play bingo and slots. She was a talented seamstress, working professionally at the U.S. Naval Base in Subic Bay, Olongapo, Philippines for seventeen years. Afterwards, she moved to Oxnard, California to live with her oldest daughter and son-in-law where she would often care for her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren during their younger years. She later moved with her daughter and son-law to San Diego, California in 1985 where she remained until her final days. She is survived by her children Consuelo Black (Joe), Ingrid Sanding (Eddie), and James Paul Hagar, Jr. (Maria Faye); her grandchildren Joseph T. Black, III (Jackie), Robert Black (Arlene), John Black (Mary), Maribeth Bradberry (Mike), Paul Black (Maida), Tony Sanding (Maita), Joe Sanding (Kathleen), James Paul Hagar, III and Chris Hagar; her great-grandchildren Sandra Black, Byron T. Bartlett, IV ( Leukena), Marissa Black (Matt Bischoff), David Bartlett (Sumra), Danny Black, Leilani Black, Keoni Black (Sabrina), Drew Black, Troy Black (Junelle Narag), Adrien Sanding, Joshua Sanding, Luke Black, Jude Black, Faith Black, and Ashton Sanding; and her great-great granddaughters Kayli Tibbs, Sega Bartlett, Sophie Bartlett, Sachi Bartlett, Jolei Black, Frankie Bischoff, and Maylea Black. She is preceded in death by her husband Cosme Baluyot, 1945; her siblings Lorenzo Ocampo, 1961; Dionesia Medina, 1989; Pasencia Gatus, 1990; and her great-grandson Michael Christopher Bradberry, 2010. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Parish, 8200 Gold Coast Drive, San Diego, CA, 92126. The graveside service and internment will immediately follow at El Camino Memorial Park.
