Mary June (Reeves) Quinley was born and raised in Dallas, Texas . She entered into this world on June 28, 1918 and passed away peacefully, on July 4, 2018, at the age of 100 ~
Mary and her family moved to California in 1951, becoming permanent residents of San Diego, California.
Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a friend to many throughout her 100 years.
Mary’s background was rich in life experiences, from a young age. She never forgot the early teachings from her Mother and Grandmother, both of whom she adored and taught her the love of family and the importance of independence.
As a young mother, Mary, worked hard to care for her family. She was an amazing seamstress (sewing most of her children’s clothing) an outstanding Cook (always from scratch) and she kept a beautiful home for family and friends to enjoy ~ she loved to entertain!
Over the years, her passion and voluntary involvement with The Ladies Auxiliary/VFW, San Diego Eagles Chapter, was constant and she received numerous accolades for her participation in the Auxiliary’s events for close to 50 years.
Through the many years, before Mary retired, she actively raised her family while working outside the home. She was a successful Restaurateur, opening “Mary’s Café” in Dallas, Texas serving up scrumptious Southern-style food. In San Diego, her career took a business direction and she was employed with General Dynamics - Convair Division where she was recognized as an outstanding Keypunch Operator. Mary then decided to do what she loved most and that was work in the Cosmetology field. She attended Cosmetology School and received her License. Mary enjoyed making everyone look their best.
Mary’s favorite thing to do was spend special time with her family. Her additional enjoyment included a love of Dancing, Country Western music, cooking, crafting, crocheting, Bingo, Mexican food and Margaritas! Mary loved celebrating and sharing life!
Mary is survived by her four children; Allen L. Williams (Becky) of Pismo Beach, Gary Williams (Mona) of San Diego, Barbara Fox and Tom Berry, of Arizona. She was a proud Grandparent and is survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her personal Physician, Doctor Richard Putnam, for his superb care of her for over 20 years. His patience, availability and friendship saw her through to her 100th year ~ he truly was a gift to her and her family. Also, a special mention to Life Care Center of Escondido for their ongoing care, love and support. Thank you for recognizing and honoring our mom with the lifetime membership in the “Life Care Centers of America’s Century Club” and the glorious 100th Birthday celebration!
