Hallahan, Michael F. SAN DIEGO -- Michael F. Hallahan died peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 22, 2014, just short of his 95th birthday. Mike was born at home in San Diego on September 8, 1919, to Michael and Margaret (Mulkerin) Hallahan, both from Ireland. Mike was a lifelong athlete and was a pitcher for the San Diego Aztecs; he was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers just before being drafted by Uncle Sam. He served as an officer in the Army Signal Corps during WWII, then joined the Air Force Reserves, from which he retired as a Lt. Colonel after 37 years of military service. Mike worked in the Sweetwater and San Diego City Schools for 37 years, as career counselor, teacher and coach. He was dedicated to his students and put in untold extra hours working to make a difference in their lives. He received his BA and MA from SDSU, and later earned a PhD in Vocational Guidance from UCLA in 1969. He was active in many civic and social organizations, including a UCLA scholarship committee, the Park East Opera Guild and the San Diego Symphony Association, and managed his son's little league team for a number of years.
Faith and family were most important to Mike, and he was a devoted husband to Margaret, "Peg", his wife of nearly 58 years. Mike is survived by his 99-year old brother and best friend, Timothy V. Hallahan of San Diego; his three children, Ann, Michael (m.Debby), and Patricia; grandchildren James, Molly, Nathan, Heather and Amy; his brother-in-law, Don Ide; four great-grandchildren; and beloved nieces and nephews and their families. A Visitation and Vigil will be held September 4 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Goodbody Mortuary and the funeral Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church Sept. 5 at 10:30 a.m.
Blessed are those who died in the Lord; let them rest from their labors for their good deeds go with them.
Eternal rest grant Michael, O Lord.
May he rest in peace. Amen.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Arrangements under the direction of Goodbody Mortuary, San Diego, CA.
