

San Diego, CA – She was born and raised Nida Metra Menes in the barangay of Lipay, town of Santa Cruz, province of Zambales and country of the Republic of the Philippines. She was the fifth out of 8 children born from Perpetuo Menes and Rosalina Metra Menes. Her siblings are Domingo (75),Juvita (73), Luzviminda (deceased), Danilo (69), Jose (deceased) Romeo (62) , and Luisito (59). Nida attended school at Santa Cruz Academy from 1966 – 1970 before moving to Manila to attend college at Adamson University where she received a degree in finance.
It was her time in Manila when and where she met her spouse Celerino Sumagaysay Pescadera. They were married on June 25th, 1978 before moving to San Diego, CA where her husband was restationed by the US Navy. In the subsequent years she began working in the electronics assembly industry and worked her way up. During this time, she had her three children all two years apart: Neil Ryan, Marc, & Cheryl Jan. As her family grew, they moved from the neighborhoods of National City to Mira Mesa where she worked her way up to a quality assurance supervisor. Nida raised her children attending catholic church at Naval Air Station Miramar Chapel, took her family to many provincial festivals, and went galivanting looking for new and good food with many of the women in her family. She stopped being a working mom and spouse as she found more leisure spending time with her extended family and when her kidney’s began to fail. With the help and support of her immediate and extended family, Nida persevered through 9 years of dialysis until she received a kidney transplant in 2017.
She spent many Thanksgivings, Christmases and New Years with extended family playing tongits and taking pictures of the food and people around her. She was an avid viewer of Korean dramas, enjoyed planting succulents, and enjoyed going to brunch with her surrounding families for Mother’s day and her birthday. Her most favorite time was spent watching over and helping raise her first and only granddaughter, Rhianna Marie Pescadera.
Nida is survived by her husband, three children, 5 living siblings, grandchildren (Jorrell, Jayden and Rhianna Marie) and descending families from her siblings. She passed on February 1st, 2021 after a month-long battle with COVID-19. She will be remembered as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, cousin, auntie, lola, friend, co-worker, neighbor, and persistent tongits player.
