In loving memory of Paul Stephen O’Neil who left us on July 18, 2024, after a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Born on May 23,1954 to Tim and Rita O’Neil, he was the third of four children. His Navy family moved several times before his father retired as a captain in 1970. Paul attended La Jolla High School where he was a multi-sport athlete for the Vikings.
After briefly attending the University of Colorado Boulder, Paul decided to “take a year off” from school to explore commercial swordfishing. He earned a reputation as a standout east coast harpooner. There he met and eventually married Joanne Saint in 1988 in San Diego. They had two children, Nick and Jerry. Paul was a devoted dad who cherished time with his sons while transitioning to a career in real estate.
Paul was a kind, generous, and humorous person who was always looking for ways to help others in need. He loved his family, friends, the ocean, golf, camping, fantasy football, and his loyal dog Auggie.
Predeceased by eldest sister Sue Gawlick,Paul is survived by sister Jan O’Neil, brother Dick, ex-wife Joanne, beloved sons Nick and Jerry, and countless friends.
