Today we celebrate the life of Mr. Reginal M. DePass. He was born in Bronx, NY on October 18, 1950, to Clifford A. DePass and Lillian T. DePass at Solans Hospital for Women. He grew up in St Albans and Laurelton Queens, NY. Reggie attended Andrew Jackson High School and excelled as a track and cross-country distance runner.
After graduating High School in 1969, he attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas where he was a student-athlete competing in track and field. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration. Known as a hard and resolute worker, Reggie started his 54-year career working delivering newspapers for the Long Island Paper at age 13. When he arrived in San Diego in 1974, he worked for Bumblebee Tuna, but he knew that teaching and coaching was what he was destined to do. He eventually began working for the San Diego School system and became extremely active with the athletics program. He coached elementary and middle school girls’ basketball teams at Feaster’s Charter School. He retired in 2021 from Feaster Charter School in Chula Vista California, as Director of Finance. An avid golfer, you can often find him at either Chula Vista or Bonita golf courses with his golf buddies.
Reggie is survived by his wife Mary Sue of 49 years, son Reginald II (Maddy), and three granddaughters, Imani, Harper, and Sasha.
He is also survived by his daughter Toni (Abasi).
He is also survived by his brother Clifford Antonio DePass Jr., his nieces Lia, Elise, Tencia, Orissa, Lillia, and many great-nieces.
Reggie was extremely loved and touched the lives of many around the country. His willingness to give beyond himself will be his true legacy.
“My life could have been better, but I have no regrets with the life lived! Always blessed and thankful” …. Reggie
Psalm133
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the Lord commanded the blessing—Life forevermore.
Friends and family are invited to attend a short celebration of life at Cypress View Mortuary on Thursday, January 4th, 2024 at 8 AM, which I am sure Reggie would appreciate and be blessed with his homegoing.
