Reverend Monsignor Don Kulleck died on Friday, January 12. He was 90 years old. He was a Roman Catholic priest for the Diocese of San Diego for almost 66 years. Born in Chicago to Otto Kulleck and Loretta Kulleck, he graduated high-school seminary there, but moved to San Diego and was ordained on February 2, 1952.
Over the course of his vocation he served as the bishop's secretary, a prison chaplain, an associate pastor, and as pastor at Our Lady of the Angels and at St. Pius X in Chula Vista. He served a term as President of the Priest Senate and was a member of the diocesan consultors for a time.
He was an avid reader of all kinds of literature and a Padre fan. Those that knew him best were struck by his deep sense of gratitude and his humility. He was faithful to a daily routine of prayer. He loved the Eucharist. He loved being a priest. He is survived by his half-brother and wife, Richard and Catherine Kulleck, his two nephews Nate and Brendan Kulleck and many cousins in the Joerger and Kulleck families.
A vigil service will be held on Sunday, January 21, at 7 p.m. and a funeral Mass celebrated Monday, January 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Chula Vista, CA.
