Robert James Golembieski passed away peacefully on May 14, 2020 at the age of 70 in Howell, MI following a brief illness. He was born in 1949 in Dearborn, MI to Robert R. and Bernice (Wisnieski) Golembieski.
Bob graduated from Garden City East High School in 1967 and went on to join the Navy, where he quickly established himself as “Gobi”. He served most of his Navy career as a sonar technician in the submarine service, with time stationed in Groton, CT, Norfolk, VA, Pearl Harbor, HI and San Diego, CA. He served in both the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War, and earned both the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal.
Bob ultimately retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in San Diego in 1992, and then worked in the private sector for DS Fibertech in Santee, CA until 2018.
He is survived by his wife, Alane of California, his three sons, Brian (Jennifer) of Florida, John (Jennifer) of Tennessee, and Joe (Kathy) of Georgia, his daughter Lorrin of California, his mother Bernice of Michigan, his sister Diandrea (Barry) of Michigan, his brother Jim (Debbie) of Michigan, multiple grandchildren, and many beloved cousins and nephews.
He was laid to rest amongst his fellow servicemen during a private ceremony at Miramar National Cemetery on June 8, 2020. He will be forever remembered for his loyalty, pride, generosity, and larger than life personality, and he will be forever missed by the many who loved him.
