ROBERT W. SAMUEL OCTOBER 12, 1923 TO AUGUST 19, 2016 Robert Welch Samuel, aged 92, moved from Chicago to Pacific Beach in 1933, and lived in Clairemont since 1958. He proudly served 20 years as a US Marine, 20 years in the Postal Service, and after retiring in 1983, serving more than twenty thousand hours as a volunteer for the Armed Services YMCA from 1983 until 2015. He was honored in 1992 by ASYMCA as National Volunteer of the Year. Robert died at home from natural causes, grateful to have lived a happy life surrounded by a loving family and many friends. Robert was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his four children, seven grandchildren, and 2 great-grandsons. Anita, his wife of 65 years, preceded him in death in 2010. Funeral services will be held at Pacific Beach United Methodist church on September 25, and inurnment at Ft. Rosecrans on September 26.
