Ruth Goldie Rich

Ruth Goldie (Halwe) Rich died peacefully in her home at Torrey Pines Senior Living on June 24th, 2023 in Del Mar, California at the age of 95. Ruth is survived by her sister Marilyn Furlow, her 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Rich, and her brother, Paul Halwe, and her parents Cassi and Herbert Halwe.

Ruth was born on April 2nd, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri. She married Andrew Helton with whom she raised her four children. Ruth and her family moved to California where all four children grew up. After raising her children, Ruth decided to go back to school and enter the workforce. Ruth had many achievements throughout her life including graduating from San Diego State University with two Masters Degrees: Criminology and Psychology. She also took great pride in being one of the first female probation officers in the state of California. She worked for the County of San Diego, not just as a probation officer, but also as an Administration Executive. Ruth loved to gamble slot machines, sing, dance, and help others. She was a very spirited person who loved life and loved people.

Through all her achievements, Ruth also found love and married her husband, Rodney Rich. In their later years, they traveled all across the continental United States. Ruth worked in the San Marcos Senior Center, helping seniors learn the newest computer technology. Ruth enjoyed playing card games and could frequently be found making snickerdoodle cookies and caramel popcorn for her grandchildren.

A funeral is scheduled for 11am on July 14th, 2023 with a reception to follow in Del Mar, CA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ruth’s life.
