Shirley Anne was born June 16, 1943, the 5th of 6 children to loving parents, Warren & Helen Mix. Raised on a ranch, surrounded by children & animals, there was no amount of mischief to go unnoticed.
Her passion for sewing started at the early age of 4, taught by her mother & enhanced in skill by her sisters. Whether it be school & doll clothes, her artistic nature quickly elevated to bridal gowns, bridesmaids’ dresses, christening gowns, & all her daughter’s high school formal & prom dresses. Her latest endeavor was machine embroidery & quilting. Let it be known, she could orchestrate a needle & thread to dance into an elegance all of its own. Recognizing her skill in the arts she was also a professional cake decorator, teaching hundreds of ladies from churches throughout San Diego. To this day, there’s no short of her former students reaching out to say thank you for the lessons she instilled within them.
Perhaps her greatest achievement was meeting the man of dreams, Clyde Eugene Elmore, in 1966, marrying a short year later at the same church they met, Brooklyn Heights Presbyterian Church of San Diego. Within 2 years, they purchased a home they would spend the rest of their years together in, and welcomed a son, Paul, in 1970, and a daughter, Ellie, in 1977. Their years were filled with camping at Indian Hills, lounging days at the beach, taking the boat out for fishing, weekly family game night, and a general life full of love & laughter.
Shirley & Clyde insisted their home be built on the Promises of God’s Word, trusting that no matter the storms of health, finances, & life in general, nothing could falter the foundation built on the Mercy & Salvation of Jesus Christ.
Shirley leaves behind her husband, Clyde, of almost 58 years, son Paul, Daughter Ellie, adopted son Capt. Rob Preston of American Airlines, 1 granddaughter & her husband, 3 grandsons, & 4 adopted grandchildren, & of course, 3 cats.
