Simon Rodriguez Vasquez was born on 1/5/29 to Nicolasa and Daniel Vasquez in Hamlin, Texas. He was the youngest son of 13 children (8 brothers & 5 sisters). At a very young age Simon worked alongside his brothers who always looked out for each other. He served honorably in the US Army from 1951-1952. He sustained life threatening injuries during the Korean War that affected him throughout his life.
Throughout his life, he was an avid dancer and loved Latin music, Big Band, and Jazz. He worked at the San Diego Transit for 25 years, before retiring in 1998 and received several awards for which he was very proud. He was married for nearly 45 years to Susan (Gonzalez) Vasquez and they raised two daughters together (Tanya & Cindy). He is survived by his wife, Susan; his children Sammy, Patsy, Kenny, Sherri, Tanya and Cindy; grandchildren; and his beloved dog Olivia.
The viewing will be held at El Camino Memorial in Sorrento Valley on Tues., 6/9/15 from 4-8PM. The Rosary will be at 6PM. The funeral will be held at Good Shepherd Church at 10AM on Wed., 6/10/15. Interment will be at Miramar National Cemetery at 12:30PM with reception to follow at El Camino Memorial.
