

Theodore “Ted” John Snyder passed away on November 6, 2015, at the age of 82. He was born in Vincennes, Indiana to Mary and Shirley Snyder. He proudly served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, from 1952 – 1972 and retired at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During his enlistment, he served in the Korean Conflict, Vietnam War and was part of the Recovery Team for the Apollo 8 Mission. After his retirement from military service, he worked as a Superintendent in construction for almost 20 years. At the age of 59, he graduated from the California Department of Corrections Academy and served as a Correctional Officer for nearly 6 years at Donovan State Prison in San Diego, California. As a young man, Ted was an accomplished runner for the Vincennes High School cross-country team in Indiana. As an adult, he was a man of admirable character as he displayed the highest levels of moral and ethical values to family and friends. Ted found the love of his life, Lorraine Fujie Furukado, whole stationed in Hilo, Hawaii and married her in 1955. They remained married for 60 years. Ted is survived by his wife Lorraine; sons Glenn and Ron; daughters Carole (Tina) and Diane (Christine); granddaughters Kathleen (Corey), Julia (Katy), Sarah and Lauren; great grandchildren Gigi and Andre; brothers Ralph (Dorothy), Don (Mary), Gary (Cara), Jim (Judith) and Steve; sister Barbara; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 19th, 11:00 AM at the El Cajon Mortuary, 684 S. Mollison Ave. It will be followed by a procession to the internment site at the Miramar National Cemetery where a short military honor will take place at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow immediately afterwards.
