Tim was born on September 13, 1947, in San Francisco, California, to Timothy Fogarty Sr. and Jeanette Fogarty. A proud native of the Bay Area, Tim spent much of his life contributing to his family's legacy in the lumber industry, helping shape the foundation of what would become Silicon Valley.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Tim served his country honorably for four years, including time in Vietnam. He attended the Defense Language Institute, where he learned Mandarin—sparking a lifelong love of languages and cultures. He attended Humboldt State where he got a Bachelors in History and later completed a Masters in History at Cal State Hayward.
Tim was known for his warmth, curiosity, and wit. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life: sharing a cup of tea with family and friends, riding his bike around Mission Bay and then Cypress Estates, walking his loyal pups Missy and Rosco, and enjoying breakfast at Café Elysa with his kids and grandkids. A man of many interests, he loved reading everything he could get his hands on (especially novels), rooting for his favorite sporting teams, listening to NPR, savoring dim sum, watching Westerns and mysteries, welcoming those from other countries and listening to eclectic music. He was proud of his Irish heritage and cherished his connections to his family in Ireland.
Tim’s Roman Catholic faith and Jesuit education at Bellarmine shaped his values of service, learning, and compassion. He lived his life with humility and heart, always guided by his own personal motto: “Make a friend and lend a hand because you can.”
Tim is survived by his son Thomas Fogarty (Margaret), daughters Elizabeth and Caroline Fogarty, their mother Linda, and his cherished grandchildren John Daniel, Helen, and Virginia Fogarty. He is also survived by his brothers Tom (Chris), Ted, and Kevin Fogarty; his sister Jane Borghini (Mario); and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved son Daniel Fogarty and loyal sister Judee Curley.
A vigil will be held on June 26 at 5:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Old Town, San Diego.
