MACHADO, URBANA "BUNNY" Urbana "Bunny" Machado born July 8, 1920 to John and Dina Avila in Pico, an island of the Portuguese Azores, and died September 15, 2012 peacefully with her family by her side in her Point Loma home of 62 years. At the age of two, she set sail with her mother across the Atlantic Ocean bound for San Francisco to begin a new life with her father who was in the diary business in what is now Sausalito, Ca. In 1935, after hearing from a relative about the living to be made in the tuna fishing business, the family packed up their belongings and headed for San Diego. Bunny worked at High Seas cannery until she married the love of her life, Frank Machado, Jr., in 1937. They were devoted to each other for 68 years. During that time, Bunny was a loving wife, mother, grandmother always extending a helping hand with unconditional love. All of her friends knew her as a gentle and modest person with a soft smile yet strong in her own right. She is survived by her sister, Nuberta "Bertie" Ramos, of Point Loma, her son Ron, her grandson Mario, her granddaughter Andrea Hafenstein, and her two great-grandchildern, Breeze and Brandon Hafenstein. Visitation at Beardsley-Mitchell Funeral Home, Ocean Beach, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., on September 25th. Mass at St Agnes Catholic Church, in Point Loma, on Sept. 26th at 10 a.m.
