

Walter Theodore Carlson, eternally loved and never to be forgotten, has passed away peacefully at the age of 83 surrounded by loved ones on Father’s Day, June 19, 2016. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of almost 60 years, his ‘sweetheart’ E. Darlene (Dopp) Carlson, son James Carlson and sister LaVina Doman. He is survived by daughters Barbara Blakemore and Darla Raborn; with his sons, Walt D. Carlson and Ken Carlson. Walter and Darlene considered themselves especially blessed for their eleven grandchildren* who adored them both and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Walter was born in Moscow, Idaho and then relocated with the US Navy to San Diego, California, where he lived the majority of his life in the Clairemont Mesa community. Walter spent 22 years as a Corpsman, retiring honorably from service, continued into a second healthcare career as an XRay technician. He enjoyed his many callings, in which he again served tirelessly for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, along with his many crafting hobbies The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the long standing friends and supportive church members who were such a part of Walter’s life. We thank our Lord for the gift of Walter’s presence and the blessing of the time we spent with him. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 10th from 1:00 – 5:30 PM, El Camino Memorial Park located at 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121. A memorial service will be held to honor Walter on Monday, July 11th scheduled for 11:30 AM, El Camino Memorial Park located at 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121 Burial services with full military honors will immediately follow at Miramar National Cemetery, scheduled for 1:00 PM located at 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, CA 92122. The staff of El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego and Resthaven Carr-Tenney in Arizona have provided graceful and tender care in these arrangements and we express deep gratitude for their service to our family. * Grandchildren wishing to express their great love for Grandpa Walt are ~ Bryon, Debbie, Tammy, Jenny, Christopher, Nikki, Mianna, Lucas, Jeremy, Keith and Kira.
