

Walter was born in May 1929 in Norwich, CT the son of the late John and Johanna (Galicka) Jankowski.
He graduated from the Norwich Free Academy in 1946. Following high school, he served in the Army and then attended Indiana Technical College, class of 1956, where he earned a degree in Electronic Engineering. In college he was a member of the Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity, a professional engineering fraternity, and participated in intermural softball and bowling.
Following receipt of his degree, he moved to San Diego where he started his career. His career in electrical engineering spanned over 30 years. The majority of his working years were spent at General Dynamics and the Navy Aviation Depot on Coronado Island.
He met his late wife Mary Lousie Jankowski (d. 1988) in San Diego. They had one daughter, Margaret Ann Jankowski Hennig. Following the passing of his first wife, he married his late wife Marianne R. Jankowski (d. 2022). He maintained close relationships with his late sisters, Frances Jankowski (d. 1988) and Jenny Gwudz (d. 1992), his nephew Chaplin John Gwudz, and his nieces Carol Ann Malanoski and Joan Banas (d. 2024) and Joan’s family (husband Walter Banas and their son Charles Banas).
Throughout his life he enjoyed playing and watching sports, electronics in general (he built a TV one year), food and the company of family. Walter will be remembered by all for his kindness.
He is preceded by his siblings Rev. John Jankowski, Joseph Jankowski, Laura Di Pio, Jenny Gwudz and Frances Jankowski.
He is survived by his daughter, son-in-law Mark Hennig, grandchildren Katherine Hennig and Anne Hennig, nephew Chaplin John Gwudz, niece-in-law Margaret Z. Johns and second wife’s children.

A Funeral Mass will be held at San Rafael Catholic Church, located at 17252 Bernardo Center Drive, San Diego, CA 92128, on December 16, 2025, starting at 10:00 am.
The Committal Service will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum, situated at 4470 Hilltop Drive, San Diego, CA 92102, on the same day at 11:30 am.
