REMEMBERING YUKI By Julie McGinnis Yuki Miyahara – I remember when she smiled. Her face lit up, and how we would laugh together. I would sit with her and she would tell me about her childhood; when she met her husband; and life in the Japanese internment camp. She taught me how to make fried zucchini and eggplant. Mmmm. We would go to the 99 cent store (her favorite place to shop), out to lunch, or out for frozen yogurt (vanilla of course). And she and Trisha would come over to watch Hallmark movies with me. Giving Trish and Fred some freedom to venture out together, I enjoyed my times alone with Yuki. Yuki was loved by family and friends. She had many visitors in these past months…..daughters and sons-in-law, grand kids and great grand kids. Many traveled far to have a special time with Yuki. Yuki lived with Trisha and Fred for many years and was lovingly cared for when she could no longer care for herself. At 96 years, Yuki told me many times she was ready to go, hoping it would be in her sleep! And it was. I am thankful to have known her and am sad at her passing. I will remember her always. Julie, with tears in my eyes
