Carl Dragan Fijat

Carl Dragan Fijat died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, September 30 in San Francisco, California at the age of 59 after a two year battle with neck cancer. Carl is survived by Francesca, his loving wife of 34 years, his children Andrew and Emily, parents Blogoje and Olga Fijat and his sister Carol Rich residing in Melbourne, Australia.

Carl was born November 26, 1957 in Pancevo, Serbia to Blogoje and Olga Fijat. He graduated from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology with a degree in Computer Science.

Carl married Francesca Pepi, also from Melbourne, in New York City in 1983. They moved to San Francisco in 1985 where Carl worked with United Airlines as a Systems Analyst and later entered the High Technology field with a start up company in Palo Alto called Aion. After working with a series of successful startups he finished his career with his current employer, Cisco Systems, as a Business Development Manager.

They welcomed their beautiful children Andrew 1990 and Emily 1992 and set about providing them with a home full of love and encouragement to believe in themselves. His children remember him as a very caring, loving and involved Dad and soccer coach.

Carl was outgoing and always showed a genuine interest in people. His heart was open to everyone he met. He was passionate about cycling, soccer and a coffee connoisseur who loved to cook and entertain with family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Columbarium of San Francisco, on Tuesday, October 10 at 12 noon, with a reception immediately following the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carl’s life. The family would like to thank the Stanford Head and Neck Oncology Doctors and staff for giving Carl the best care and support possible.
