Cecilia Rose Rivera passed away summer 2022 on July 7th, after a long, tumultuous battle with dementia. She was 70 years old. Cecilia was born in Fort Ord to Thomas Reyes Rivera and Eva Rivera as one of five children. Raised in San Francisco’s Outer Sunset District she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970. She loved her city, was a passionate 49ers and Giants fan, an avid reader, and a fervent visitor and supporter of Camp Mather. In the mid 1970s she embarked on a decades-long career in radio, first with KSAN, then KMEL where she met many of her most beloved friends. She then spent more than a decade with KGO and later Univision and Papas radio.
Cecilia was a people person; those that know and loved her will have fond memories of her laughter and her innate ability to charm anyone and everyone, even strangers in the grocery line. Her beloved home in San Francisco’s Richmond District was often the site of many a party and celebration, be it birthdays, Christmas, or Super Bowls, as she was a talented and generous hostess. Cecilia was a strong, resilient woman and she cared deeply about the health of nature and our planet, often donating to various environmental organizations.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, brother Tom, and sister Maria. She raised two beautiful children, Vanessa and Evan, and is survived by her granddaughter Laleina Rivera Ryan, her sisters Susanne & Janice, her long-time partner and love, Bill Owings and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held August 17, 2023, 3pm to 6pm at Park Chalet in San Francisco. Please RSVP to Bill at [email protected].
