Native San Franciscan, Georgette Beainy, passed away Sunday, July 13 2014 on her terms: at home overlooking Grace Cathedral to the sounds of cable cars. She was raised in the Sunset district, attended Star of the Sea school, and graduated from Presentation High School. Her father George Beainy immigrated to San Francisco from Lebanon in the early 1900's and her mother Catherine Farris, moved to San Francisco from Butte, Montana from a large Lebanese family. Georgette displayed great pride in her Lebanese heritage.
Georgette is survived by her sister, Beverly Barnard (John Barnard), brother, Stanley Beainy (Karen Beainy); her children, Cathy Kelly, Linda Herrera, (Asef Bayat) Gregangelo Herrera (Emmanual Noel), Jeff Herrera (Gara Godbold), and their father Ted Herrera (Kay Zerck), and her beloved grandchildren Nicole Kelly, Shiva Bayat, Tara Bayat, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Georgette dedicated her professional life to managing "Doc" Giannini's medical practice, and the two remained inseparable life companions.
She will be fondly remembered for her colorful character, brassy personality, exuberant sense of humor, and straight-shooting advice. Georgette was a lifelong democrat and thrived on discussing current events. She was passionate about working with marginalized people. Among her most cherished work was volunteering on the streets for Larkin Street Youth, Rafael House and Most Holy Redeemer AIDS Support Group. Her works also included philanthropy for the De Young Museum and Renovation of Huntington Park in San Francisco.
A combined viewing and memorial funeral mass will begin at 10am, Thursday, July 17th at Notre Dame des Victories, 566 Bush Street, followed by internment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.
A reception celebrating Georgette's life will be held at the home of Gregangelo Herrera immediately following internment, at 225 San Leandro Way (at Monterey) in San Francisco at 1pm.
