Born in Chile to Palestinian parents, he carried both his homeland and his heritage in his heart and in everything he did. Thanks to his vision and determination, we came to this wonderful country we love, where we’ve built a beautiful life together and where we will continue to carry on his legacy.
Though we were blessed with so many years by his side, we were never going to be ready to say goodbye. We needed more time to hear his wise words and loving advice, to laugh at his perfectly timed jokes that could make us cry with laughter with just a glance, and to feel the hugs and kisses that made everything better. But we are so grateful and feel blessed for all the time we had together.
Life with our Dad was always full of warmth, affection, laughter, knowledge, and incredible food. He loved soccer, and his favorite team was Palestino of Chile. He also had a deep appreciation for other cultures, especially Spanish culture—its music, food, art, and traditions—particularly listening to Flamenco and dancing the Pasodoble with my mom.
Back home, he carried on his family’s legacy as a respected multi-business owner, operating a beauty store and a restaurant. He was an active member of the Rotary Club and the local Club Árabe, proudly celebrating both his Chilean and Palestinian heritage through community service, soccer, and cultural traditions. It feels so fitting that he left us on Chile’s Independence Day, a day he always marked with a delicious empanada and a glass of red wine, just as tradition calls for. He adored great meals of every kind, especially the Arabic dishes lovingly prepared by the best chef of all—my mom. Truly, he was a man who loved culture, music, food, life, and most of all, his family.
Our dad taught us to love with all our hearts, to celebrate life, and to find humor in even the smallest moments. He had a remarkable way with words, always coming up with the funniest jokes and the most fitting nicknames for friends and family. It’s been hard for us to be in this world without him, but we find comfort knowing he rests peacefully in God’s embrace, reunited with his parents—our lovely Tata and Nona—and the many loved ones who welcomed him home.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas More Church on Saturday, October 18, at noon. 1300 Junipero Serra Boulevard San Francisco, California 94132
