Kirk Phillips passed away quietly with family members present at his home in San Francisco, CA. Kirk had fought a long & brave battle with cancer over the past few years, and was finally relieved of his pain and suffering on May 6, 2019.

Kirk was born and raised in Springfield, Illinois, graduated from Springfield High School, and attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. His major at the university was in interior and exterior design which eventually launched him into his career at the Shears and Window showroom at the San Francisco Design Center. He rose to Vice President of the company and managed the Textile Division. He was associated with Shears and Window for close to 30 years before his death.

Surviving Kirk are his Mother, Carolyn Phillips of Hayward, CA, Father, Jack Phillips of Springfield, IL, Sisters, Kimberly Phillips-Ingram of Bainbridge Island, WA, Lee Ann Phillips of Portland, OR, Sandra Phillips of Wheaton, IL, Pamela Volz of Springfield, IL; Several nieces and nephews: Nicholas Ingram, Dana Freeman, John Lord II, Matthew Lord, and Emily Volz. Also several great nephews and nieces. Kirk loved living in San Francisco his adopted city. It was his desire to die at his home which was his pride and joy. Kirk and his mother bought the duplex in 2002. Kirk’s passion and hobby was remodeling it. He turned it into a magnificent home. Thanks to Hospice he was able to spend his last days at home in peace.

Kirk was a very spiritual person. He was an everyday mystic. His passion for living prepared him for death. He accepted death as a part of his humanity and embraced death as part of his spiritual journey. We who were fortunate enough to share our lives with Kirk are forever grateful for having our lives enriched by him.

Private services for the family will be held at San Francisco Columbarium & Funeral Home on May 22, 2019. A Celebration of Life for Kirk will be held at the San Francisco Design Center Galleria that evening from 5 to 7 p.m. and all friends, colleagues, and family are invited. For those who would like to donate a gift to a charity in Kirk’s name, please make your contributions to The American Cancer Society.

...Some memories are too precious
to share with everyone
And that is where we keep
our most cherished recollections
of everything
and everyone
that once made us feel so alive.
(Memories by Nikita Gill)

I regret more than anything our inability to come together for each other during the harder times. I have so many good memories of you before it all became a blur. The disappointment that we will not get together again on this earth is sometimes too much. I will forever miss the guaranteed laughter. I have had so much to say. I hope you will now hear it all as I speak to you in private. Can you hear me now?

Love You! Your Sister, Kim

My heart is broken to hear this. I have the fondest memories of my time at Shears and Window. Kirk and I had so much fun everyday so many years ago. He was a light and a joy. He has never been far from my thoughts.

He will be so missed and was so loved!

Turkey Kirky you are a beautiful person and loving Uncle. I will miss you dearly. I’m so happy you were able to meet your Great Nephews. They loved spending time with you. When Carter returned home from CA he’s greatest memory of you was how much you made him laugh. I love you always.

Kirk was one of the kindest, funniest people I’ve ever known. We had so many interesting , meaningful, fun talks over the years and it was one of my great joys of the day at work to crack him up and hear that laugh! I will always remember that laugh and his wonderful personality. I feel blessed to have known him. My heart goes out to his family during this difficult time.

Kirk was my next door neighbor for the past 15 years, until I sold my home last year. He was always available for a short chat when we were coming or leaving home at the same time or would make time for me when we had to discussed our properties. He shared information willingly and helped me recover the costs involved when the storm brought down his tree, which pulled down a pipe attached to my house that went into my car. One could not ask for a better neighbor. I am sorry I will not be in town for his memorial. My condolences to his family.

I met Kirk about 20 years ago. He was a beautiful man and a loving son, brother and uncle. One of my first memories of Kirk was the beautiful tribute he wrote to his mother Carolyn for her 60th birthday. Carolyn and Robert (my brother) and Kirk included me in many celebrations of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and birthdays as well as trips to museums and dinners out. Kirk was always so gracious and generous and fun. I will miss him. My love and prayers are with Carolyn and Robert and Kirk's sisters as they deal with this loss. I know there are many good memories of Kirk that will sustain them.

There is no other love like the love for a brother. There is no other love like the love from a brother, and nothing will stop me from loving my brother.

You will forever be in my heart, my mind, my spirit, my soul.

Love Me, Love You
