

Loving Daughter of Dorothy S. Kyne and William P. Kyne, Founder and President of Bay Meadows Racecourse (1934-1956). Marylin was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was called to heaven and passed peacefully at her home in San Francisco on October 25 at age 96 with family.
Marylin grew up in San Francisco attended the Marina Middle School, Galileo and Dominican High Schools, University of California Berkeley and Mills College.
In 1946 Following WWII, she married Army Major, Robert S. Gunderson who then went on to a career in Thoroughbred horse racing most notably at Bay Meadows Race Track in San Mateo.
Marylin was the loving Mother of four children, Gretchen Kramer (John), Greg Gunderson (Johanna), Gena Gunderson and Grant Gunderson (Tammy), and six Grandchildren, Vebeka Guess (Andrew), Siri Martin (Oliver), Kaare Kramer, Ross Gunderson (Hayley), Gina Gunderson and Grant Kyne Gunderson and five Great Grandchildren.
An active member of the community in the peninsula Marylin volunteered for Stanford Hospital and belonged to the Allied Arts Guild Auxiliary in Menlo Park. She and Bob later joined the Menlo Circus Club, where she modeled and volunteered for the Tally Ho Horse Show. She also was a member of the Menlo School Mother’s Club and an active supporter of Holbrook Palmer Park.
In 1973, Marylin was elected by shareholders to the Board of Directors of the California Jockey Club at Bay Meadows and served for 25 years through 1998, when the racetrack was sold to Patriot American Hospitality hotel group from Dallas, Texas. She always supported the many racing events of Bay Meadows.
After moving back to San Francisco in 1974, Marylin was also an active member of the Presidio Golf and Concordia Club (1977-2018), where she enjoyed many social activities, golfing and bridge.
Marylin truly enjoyed traveling, and had a life-long interest in art. Beginning in 1966 she made many trips abroad with family and the Stanford Commitee for Art.
She later traveled with fellow Bay Meadows Directors to other racetracks both in the United States, Europe and South America for the purpose of gathering ideas on on improving horse racing at Bay Meadows
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charities below are preferred.
