Mitchell (Mickey) Vasilatos Davies passed away peacefully on January 28, 2013 in San Francisco at the age of 93. He was born in this City on May 19, 1919 to Sophia and Anthony Vasilatos and attended Galileo High School and the University of Oregon, Eugene, where he was a cheerleader. He was part of the Greatest Generation, serving his country in the South Pacific in WWII. He married Ethel Christopher in 1949 and together they raised three sons. Mickey worked in the dairy industry for his entire career and became president of Christopher Dairy when his brother in law, George Christopher, was elected Mayor of San Francisco. When the dairy was sold to Berkeley Farms in 1970, Mickey remained on as General Manager of the San Francisco plant for another 30 plus years, finally retiring at the age of 83. One of Mickey's proudest achievements was forming the Junior 49er Club which gave free admission to 49er games to generations of local boys and girls for over 53 years. He was honored by the 49ers on the field on the Club's 50th Anniversary. Mickey was a proud member of the Big 6, a group of his oldest friends who met weekly for over 60 years to enjoy each other's company and plan their annual fishing trips. He was also a 54 year member of the Olympic Country Club. Mickey traveled and enjoyed life like a man half his age, remaining lively and gregarious to the end, an inspiration to all of us who were lucky enough to accompany him. He was known as a warm and loyal friend and will always be remembered for his smile.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ethel Davies, son Michael Davies and daughter-in- law Rosemarie, son Christopher Davies and daughter-in- law Diane, grandchildren Alexis and Austin, and sisters-in-law Helen Christopher and Beatrice Tentes. He was pre-deceased by his son James and granddaughter Michelle.
