He was 26 years old.
Nate was a young man full of enthusiasm, goofiness and love of life. He was hilarious. There was no
one more committed to “the bit”: he would adopt an outrageous, inflammatory point of view but maintain
a certain glint in his eye that would let you know he was joking. We’re all pretty sure his Republican stint
in high school was a three-year bit. As a kid, he directed and produced numerous satiric videos with his sisters that were
reminiscent of SNL Digital Shorts. (These are still available on their old YouTube channel
ImRidingACatTV.) In high school, he took a taxi to get to swim practice on time and paid the driver
completely in quarters. Just last year,he sent us pictures of him in the cockpit of a Southwest plane, having
convinced the pilot it was his first flight.
He was also extraordinarily intellectually curious. He never stopped learning, and once he became
interested in something he would dive deeply into it. He learned every single international flag for fun.
If he finished a test early, he would draw the detailed and labeled map of Europe at the bottom of his paper.
When the family was on vacation in Alaska, he spent two hours walking through the woods grilling his mother about the origins
of the financial crisis. He was 15. He would memorize the maps and transit
systems of random cities, the entire politics and history of the LA gangs, or the deep biography of his 42x great grandfather Rollo De Normandie (born 846 AD).
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.sanfranciscocolumbarium.com for the Rapuano family.
