Renee Michael McNary, aka “Tree,” was born in Oakland, California on February 4, 1984, and transitioned peacefully in San Francisco, California on November 27, 2023, two months shy of her 40th birthday. Tree is survived by her parents, David McNary of OK, Floriza Bosta of CA, her younger siblings Daniella Elise (OK), Elliot James (CA), and Madison Jade (CA), her nephew James Michael (OK), her beloved service dog, Atticus Finch, Esquire (WA) and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins across the globe. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded physically and virtually by her uncles Archie Aquino (CO) and Bill Aquino (FL) , aunts Jennie Aquino (CO), Marinela Aquino (FL) and Elsie Kusel (CA), and partner, Tony Yick (CA).
Tree made friends everywhere she went, and she went a lot of places. She lived in California, Hawaii, France and eventually landed in Seattle, Washington in 2017. Her suitcase and Fernando, her beloved stuffed meerkat, were always ready for an adventure anywhere in the world. She often posted about her trips on Fernando’s Instagram page, allowing followers to enjoy photos of the places she visited. She enjoyed an active life before a chronic illness limited her body from participating in the sports she loved: golfing, surfing, and snowboarding.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a complete remembrance of Tree without talking about her love of everything Disney and the special person in her life who made all the wishes she made upon a star come true. Whether they dressed as Carl & Ellie from “Up,” Skippy & Pants from “The Jungle Cruise,” or a “dapper” couple on Dapper Day, she enjoyed her frequent visits to the Happiest Place on Earth with Tony and Atticus, including her last trip the same month she passed.
Private cremation services were provided by Green Street Mortuary in San Francisco and a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Ignatius of Antioch, 3351 Contra Loma Blvd., Antioch, CA 94509. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow at 12 PM Noon at Monica’s Riverview, One I Street, Antioch, CA 94509.
