Robert Lawrence Fleischauer passed away November 12, 2023 in San Francisco, California. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, but spent his younger years in Pine Bluff, Russellville, and Hot Springs as he moved with his family to follow his father’s banking career.
Robert pursued higher education at Hendrix College, then embarked on a highly successful modeling career which took him on exciting journeys throughout Europe. Over time, he transitioned to assisting photographers, eventually becoming a prominent photographer in his own right within the fashion industry. It’s worth noting that Robert’s path to success began with a memorable meeting where he skateboarded into his soon-to-be agent’s office while holding his impressive portfolio. He always had a knack for leaving a lasting impression.
Within the industry, Robert was widely recognized for his laid-back demeanor, sweetness, and gentle nature. He split his time between Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City, working on an array of projects that included photo shoots with A-list celebrities and musicians in addition to producing captivating fashion editorials for numerous international magazines. His southern charm and humor endeared him to many, establishing him as a beloved collaborator.
When not focused on his work, Robert found solace in nature as his parents had instilled a love of the great outdoors from an early age. He followed in his father’s footsteps, earning the honor of Eagle Scout. He also actively participated in youth basketball, football, and tennis programs with his father frequently serving as coach.
Robert is survived by his mother, Cecelia Kelso, stepfather Drew Kelso, as well as his sisters, Eva Marie Lovely and Laura Ashley Fleischauer and a nephew Hawk Lovely of Austin, TX. He leaves behind his beloved partner of twenty years, Ricky Lee of San Francisco. He also leaves numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his incredibly supportive father, Jack Fleischauer, Jr., his grandparents, Alice and Jack Fleischauer, Sr., Louise and Murrell McCumber, and his cousin, Renee Evans.
Robert’s infectious laughter and boundless creativity will be deeply missed by family and friends scattered across the globe.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
