Passed away peacefully on February 9th, 2013 aged 99 years. Sensei Keiko Fukuda is the highest-ranked female judo instructor in history, holding the rank of 9th dan from the Kodokan and the United States Judo Federation and 10th dan from USA Judo, and was the last surviving student of Kano Jigoro, founder of Judo.
Sensei Keiko Fukuda is survived by her sister, Dr. Shelley Fernandez, her nieces Noriko Tajima and Taeko Uyama, nephews Akimitsu Fukuda and Masanori Fukuda and their children.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 23rd, from 11am to 8pm at Halsted N. Gray – Carew & English, 1123 Sutter Street, SF.
A Memorial Service on Friday, March 22nd, at 11am at Herbst Theater, 401 Van Ness Avenue, SF
