As a child, Wallace wanted to join the Catholic faith, but the response was, “The family is Baptist, and you should be also.” Therefore, Wallace was baptized into the Baptist faith at age 12.
After high school and a stint in the Air Force, Wallace moved to Washington DC. But he had a dream of living in California where he saw rolling green meadows with lions running around. Wallace had not traveled to California, let alone San Francisco. Without a job and not knowing anyone, just like the Beverly Hillbillies, Wallace packed up his bags and moved to San Francisco.
Wallace met William Vicini in 1992, 31 years ago, and started worshipping with him at Most Holy Redeemer.
Wallace went through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults to become a Catholic and was confirmed in 1994. They remained members of the parish ever since.
Wallace volunteered for many organizations and charities, such as the AIDS Foundation and the St. Anthony Foundation, where he served for over 25 years. At MHR, he was prominent as an altar server, eucharistic minister and greeter for many years.
Wallace is survived by four siblings: Rosa Montgomery, Eliza Dennis, Susie Rosemond and Isaiah Greene of Greenville, SC. Wallace leaves behind a multitude of loved ones, family, friends, and memories.
A memorial will be held on March 2, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., Most Holy Redeemer parish, 100 Diamond St., San Francisco 94114.
In lieu of a reception, the church will be open from noon to 1 PM for quiet reflection.
