June 5, 1923 - January 27, 2019
On January 27 2019 Alex Morrison passed away at the age of 95 at his home in Eagle Rock.
Alex was born in Los Angeles of first generation Scottish immigrants George and Elizabeth.
He had one brother named George who died in 2008.
Alex was raised in Alhambra where he attended Marguerita Grammar School and Alhambra High School.
Alex received a football scholarship to attend USC in 1939. His college life was interrupted by World War II and he spent two and a half years in the Pacific Theater as a Staff Sergeant in the Infantry.
When he returned Alex finished college at USC. His football days were ended by a broken shoulder.
After graduation Alex worked briefly for The City of Alhambra, but left to pursue a career in teaching.
He taught at Hollenbeck Jr. High School where he met his wife to be, the school music teacher, Patricia Ann Porter.
Alex moved on to Franklin High School in Highland park where he worked for thirty-two years as football coach, math teacher, Dean of Boys and Vice Principal.
Alex loved Franklin High and still met with some of his former colleagues as recently as three months prior to his death.
Dad’s wife Patricia preceded him in death in 1994. They are survived by four children. Carole, Mike, Lynn and Steve. Seven grandchildren Michelle, Christopher, Evan, Stephanie, Gregory, Kathryn and Alexandra and five great-grandchildren Kayla, Alice, Chandler, Paige and Trevor.
Our dad loved fishing, tennis (which he played until the age of 82) all USC sports teams, gardening and woodworking.
Dad was a naturally friendly, naturally inquisitive, man who led by example.
A person would be hard pressed to discover an individual who lived a more full life.
He will be greatly missed.
