Lorn Lay lived a life shaped by unimaginable hardship, quiet strength, and selfless love. A survivor of the Khmer Rouge genocide, she endured the devastating loss of her children and was forced to flee her homeland under the most harrowing circumstances. Carrying the weight of grief and trauma, she came to America in search of safety and a second chance at life.
Here, she met the man who would become her husband. Just one year into their life together, tragedy struck—he was electrocuted in a horrific accident that left him without both arms and in need of extensive medical care, including major stomach grafting. From that moment on, Lorn became his full-time caregiver. For 43 years, she devoted herself to his care, sacrificing her own well-being and dreams to stand beside the man she loved.
After arriving in the United States, Lorn gave birth to three children. Due to the incredible strain of her circumstances, she made the painful decision to place one of them for adoption—a decision made from a place of love and sacrifice. She raised two children while continuing to provide round-the-clock care for her husband, all while carrying the invisible burden of loss, trauma, and endurance.
Through it all, Lorn carried herself with quiet grace and resilience. Her life was not easy, but it was deeply meaningful. She gave everything she had to those she loved—often at great personal cost.
As we say goodbye, we honor her not only for what she survived, but for how she lived—with dignity, compassion, and extraordinary strength. After a lifetime of sacrifice, may she now find the peace and rest she so greatly deserves.
