
Marie is an original "Rosie The Rivater" she and her sisters worked at the Alhambra Company building
Airplane parts for the war effort.
She meet Martin at a dance in Los Angeles and married December 1948. Martin and Marie settled in
San Gabriel as they began raising a family.
In the early '60's Marie worked as a clerk at San Gabriel Mission and worked with many fine families in the local area and stayed busy with children in school,
Little League Baseball, Cub & Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, Guadalupana Society and Special Needs Organizations.
Marie was a steady and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, grandmother and great/great- grandmother, with a very sweet disposition. Family was important to her. Marie was a fantastic cook. The family remembers many delicious meals over the years. Her fried chicken and anything "Tex-Mex" and pumpkin pie recipes are legendary. Skilled at cultivating beautiful flower and herb gardens. Marie also cultivated many strong lifetime friendships. As a seamstress she sewed clothes for the family; pretty dresses for the girls and shirts for the boys. She volunteered her talents in making Barbie and Ken doll clothes to be gifted at Christmas. Marie liked to craft, camp, ride horses, play cards and chess.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents; Antonio and Albina Villagas; infant daughter Joy; daughter Hope/Dolly; Son Tommy; sister Connie Coppedge; brother Ruben Villegas; and brother in law Fabian Gutierrez; nephews: Henry Valenzuela II and Arthur Villegas.
She is survived by her husband Martin of 67 years; her sister Mary Hernandez and brothers Gilbert (Sukie) Villegas and Arthur (Nellie) Alva; and daughters Alice (Richard) Jackson of Lewiston, Idaho and DeAnna (Tony) Ybarra and son Robert Gutierrez; and Sisters-in-Law Lupe Gutierrez & Lillie Villegas.
Marie is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Richard Martin (Vicki) and Jonathan Douglas (Erica) Jackson; Robert Chris (Sara) Gutierrez, Melissa and Yvette Gutierrez, Valerie (Jose) Valle and Venessa Yberra; Christina & Michelle Gutierrez & Lydia Esparza.
As well as 11 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchid.
A funeral mass was held June 24th at the: San Gabriel Mission.
