Mona was born on August 9, 1937 in Lancaster Ohio in the family home on Madison Avenue of Webster and Daisy Grant. She was the youngest of 7 children. She would tell of her childhood, which was sometimes difficult during the depression era, but there were good things to remember too. Like when she was a child how she would spend the summer playing with her best friend, hanging out under the grape arbor making "mud pies" out of the coffee grounds from her mother's kitchen. All their pies were well decorated with grape leaves and flowers from the garden. She also recalls how her father often treated her for an ice cream cone, which only cost a nickel back in those days.
She grew up and married and moved to California, where she had two sons, Jay, her oldest and Kelly, her youngest. She was a proud mom, doting on her children like any young mother would. Her first job was that of a dental assistant, then later, working for the Gilmore Envelope Company as a "moss type operator". This job entailed setting up the layout and design for printing of commercial envelopes. She took the bus or rode with friends to work, but then finally decided at the age of 56 years old, she would learn to drive and buy a car. She was proud when she got her first car.
After her retirement, she settled into a life of a homemaker, cooking, visiting with friends and family, shopping and tinkering around the garden. She was able to finally sleep in, watch her soap operas and her favorite game show, the Price is Right. She relocated with her son Jay to Glendora, California in 2004 and loved life in the peaceful foothills among wonderful neighbors and friends.
She passed away peacefully at the age of 75 years old, survived by her son Jay S. Wood, her son Kelly J. King and his wife Lisa King and their children James King and Samantha King.
