Uncle Paul,
You are a special part of my memories going back to early childhood.  I remember visiting the Karate dojo where you were an instructor in LA and watching you in action.  I remember the times when you taught me self defense and asking you about all the different tools you used in your repair work.   I recall so many family dinners, fishing trips, weekend sleepovers at your house, so many precious memories.  I remember once on one of our many outings when you and I went to gather firewood, and you showed me how you could chop a branch in half with your bare hands.  You told me many stories about your time in the Navy and the Vietnam War, the accounts of dropping off Marines to fight and having to retrieve the fallen and wounded.  I remember being surprised to learn that you found your way into the ship’s kitchen and eventually became a cook.  Looking back, I realize that your stories were my first impressions of war, and I realize that they affected my interest in history and many values and opinions that live in me even now.  I was so proud to have such a cool Uncle.  I remember times before Val and Kristi were born when I stayed with you and played games.  You were at my graduations, wedding reception, and much more.  We spent so many Thanksgivings, Christmas holidays, Easters,  New Year’s Eves, summer holidays together.  Both good times and hard times.  I remember the birth of my first Kawabata cousin, and I remember the hardship you and Aunty went through.  I remember how you were strong when the family gathered in Hawaii for the memorial.  I remember how happy you and all of us were when Val and Kristi were born and carrying them both when they came home and how proud you were.  I miss those times with you and as I get older, I realize  that those were the most meaningful times in life, and you were a part of all of them.  I love you Uncle Paul and am comforted to know that you accepted Christ and that we will meet again in eternity.

     We are comforted knowing we will meet again with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven.  
      Today we celebrate your life, and remember all the times when we laughed and cried and shared so many great memories.  Watching our children grow as we celebrated birthdays and holidays.  We went to the beach,  parks and even  Santa Anita.   And there were those very special times when family came from Hawaii and we all got together and feasted on food from home.  
     Ken will ever cherish your visit with Gayla and Wayne.   It was the best Christmas with you there.  Gayla was amazing to bring us together.   
     You are a great brother and wonderful uncle.  Always soft spoken and caring...thank you Paul from all of us.   Our love for you will never fade. The prayer you shared with Ken brought inner peace to us both.   We love you always.

Dearest Big Brother,
When we were young, I remembered all the fun time we did together.  And you always took care of me.  I recalled the my first night out, you  took me to the movie theater at Waikiki with your date.  And also, when you took me to Karate classes when dad said I couldn't go because I was a girl.  I'm so grateful you encouraged me to be an independent women. 
 I'll miss you, but our memories will always be in my heart.

I wasn't ready to say goodbye, but I know you're in a better place and I will see you again.  I have lots of great memories and so many things I learned from you.
