**November 5, 1929 - July 2, 2024**
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Philip Caballero, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Born in San Antonio, Texas to Felipe (Philip) and Eva Caballero, Philip began a life filled with adventure, dedication, and boundless love.
Growing up alongside his beloved sister Rachel, Philip attended Tech High School in San Antonio, where his passion for electronics first took root, and his penchant for leadership blossomed through his involvement in the ROTC. At just 17 years of age, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on the first day the Air Force became its own branch (it was formerly a component of the U.S. Army), marking the start of a distinguished 21-year military career. His service took him and his growing family across the United States and abroad, from Alaska to Italy, each posting enriching their lives with new experiences and lifelong friendships.
Retiring from the Air Force in 1968, Philip embarked on a second career with the City of Los Angeles as an electrical technician, demonstrating the same dedication and skill that defined his military service. Even after official retirement, his work ethic and expertise continued to shine as he worked as a contractor with the city well into his eighties.
Beyond his professional achievements, Philip was a force to be reckoned with in sports. Whether on the golf course, at the pool table where he excelled in countless tournaments, or on the basketball court, where he once played against the Harlem Globetrotters, his competitive spirit and sportsmanship were legendary. His prowess in ping pong remains a family legend, always challenging others to rise to his level.
Family and friends were paramount to Philip. He spoke with great affection of his childhood friend Emilio and cherished his close-knit relationships with cousins who were like siblings. His love for his family was unconditional; he remained friends with his first wife, Frances, with whom he shared his beloved children Wayne, Carol, Glen, and Philip (Flip). Later in life he found profound happiness with Pat, with whom he shared another son, Tim. He took immense pride in the achievements of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, celebrating each milestone with overflowing joy and love.
Philip's deep love for Pat was evident to all who knew them. Together, they shared a bond built on mutual respect, laughter, and unwavering love. Pat brought immense joy and comfort to Philip's life, and their love was a testament to enduring devotion.
Philip's legacy of strength, kindness, and resilience lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void, but his memory will forever be a beacon of inspiration and love.
Philip, your legacy of love and perseverance will continue to guide us. We love you, we miss you, and we will carry you in our hearts always and forever.
