Colin Herndon Boyd, Sr. was born at Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of Richard Glennon Boyd, Sr. and Delphine Thomas Boyd on October 5, 1942. He was the fifth of eight children. Raised in a loving home with two parents, a grandmother, and seven siblings, he was a very active child and always had something to do. He made life very interesting, to say the least. Colin’s mother and grandmother were praying women and he put their prayers to the test. He was baptized at an early age.
In 1955 when he was 13, the family relocated to Kansas City, Missouri due to a transfer in his father’s employment. He attended Annunciation Grade School, Redemptorist and Central High Schools. He enjoyed sports and was on the Junior and Varsity Basketball and Football teams during high school.
Following his military duty, he returned to Kansas City and reunited with his family. He was a fun-loving person and loved to make people laugh. Colin and his brother, William (called “Bill” at that time) were extremely close and did everything together. Kansas City became boring to Colin and William so they flipped a coin and it landed on “California.” His motto was “Let’s Ride!” So they did. After arriving in Los Angeles, Colin’s nickname became “Chico” and Bill’s nickname became “Poncho.” Most of the people they met thought they were twins. They kept this “twin thing” going for over 50 years.
In 1981 he met his “ Soul Mate ” Barbara Ann Mayberry, they were married on April 20, 1985.
