Alberta peacefully passed away on August 16, 2013 at the age of 90. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at the First Congregational Church of Christ of San Jose at 1980 Hamilton Ave in San Jose, on Thursday, Sept. 19th at 10AM, followed by light refreshments.
Alberta is survived by her children; Ernest Abel, Karen Moreau, and Cathy Burhans, five grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Leonard Burhans.
Alberta was a native of Campbell and spent most of her life in the San Jose area. She was an independent woman who, as a young widow of 30, moved her two small children to Wisconsin and then onto Michigan. She remarried and moved to Florida where she owned and ran a boat and motor business. In 1966 she brought her family back to San Jose and has lived here ever since. She loved California and was especially fond of driving in the mountains and going to Santa Cruz. Her friends and family meant everything to her.
Alberta was known for her active involvement in the community. She worked with Parents Helping Parents, volunteered as a greeter at the Ainsley House, and was active in the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Association. She was a member of the Campbell Women’s Club and was active in her church. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Parents Helping Parents (PHP) of San Jose.
