Antonio Barbosa Beronilla - a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all - passed away peacefully on August 29, 2021, at his home in Gilroy, surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren. He was 83.
On June 11, 1938, he was born in Manila, Philippines, preceded in death by his parents Macario and Cristetuta Beronilla, and his brothers, Jose, Manuel, Jaime, and Rudy.
In 1969, a trailblazer, he took advantage of his father’s U.S citizenship, leaving behind his family and home. With his passport and some cash, he brought with him faith, hope, and determination as he traveled 7,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean in search of the American Dream. A first-generation immigrant, navigating a foreign country without his family or friends, relied on faith and hope to overcome the insurmountable obstacles he would face. With hard work and determination, he blazed a trail for his family and modeled a life of dignity and prosperity. He lived life with a purpose, and service was above self. Antonio Beronilla will be remembered for his selflessness and sacrifices.
In his later years, when dementia robbed him of his strength and stamina, it gave him a softness that we will treasure. It allowed us to show him a small measure of the service he had long shown all of us.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his devoted wife and caretaker, Florida Beronilla, and his children Frank (Adrienne) Beronilla, Mercy Nelson, Reuben (Marivic) Beronilla, Jerry (Imelda) Beronilla, Raquel (Glenn) Kusunoki, and Rick (Nusara) Beronilla.
The family wishes to thank the following: Vasona Creek Healthcare Center for its tender care. Pastor Alex Cambe for his unwavering support of the Beronilla family. Valley Faith United Methodist Church for their guidance and hospitality. Friends and family for their continued support.
