It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved Celia P. Garcia ("Yeya") passed away early in the morning on November 29, 2024. Yeya died of heart complications at age 82 in her own home in Modesto, California, after several days of vigil and prayer by four generations of her large family and by many friends.
She was born to Donaciano Pulido Nambo and Evangelina Garcia Alvarez on March 5, 1942, in Aguililla, Michoacan, Mexico. She emigrated to California in the 1960's, met and married her beloved husband, Pedro Garcia, and brought life and light when she moved into their Saint Helena home at the Gomez family vineyard where he worked as caretaker.
Yeya had a real flair for style and attention to detail, and she took great pride in maintaining a clean and organized home. She never left the house without looking her best, always saying, "You never know who you'll run into." As a cosmetologist, she found special joy in helping each client express their unique beauty, ensuring they felt confident and empowered.
Yeya was preceded in death by her loving husband Pedro, her parents Chano and Eva Pulido, and her siblings Teresita, Valdemar, Javier, Manuel, and Juan Pulido.
She is survived by all eight of her children (youngest to oldest: Veronica, Evangelina, Ana, Alicia, Angelica, David, Alma and Maria), five of her eleven siblings (Marilu, Edelmira, Anita, Everardo and Elizondo), 24 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park Chapel of the Oaks in San Jose, CA on December 10, 2024.
